Regret blues

Brief presentation

A dark and emotional blues ballad about regret, memory and the wounds left by love understood too late.
Regret Blues tells the story of a tired man looking back on the women he failed to understand, and on a life spent chasing elsewhere what he had already been given.

Lyrics

Some nights never end.
They stay there, sitting by the bed,
with a distant guitar
and a half-empty glass.
And then you understand everything.
But too late.

I am a tired old man,
with a worn-out heart,
I have walked so far
and I don’t know where I got.

They gave me kisses,
they gave me their heart,
but I just kept moving on,
never knowing what love was.

I had gentle hands
on my face and on my chest,
but I was always looking elsewhere
for what I already held.

Now the blues is playing,
playing softly inside me,
every note is a wound
that comes back together with you.

Now the blues is playing
in a room without light,
I understood what love was
when I had no voice left to cry.

I loved many women,
or maybe I only believed I did,
I took their fire
and then I stayed silent.

They gave me tomorrow,
I spent only the present,
I did not know that love
does not forgive those who do not feel.

Now I live beside someone
who cannot look inside me,
I speak, but she does not listen,
I shout, but she cannot hear the wind.

Now the blues is playing,
playing softly inside me,
every note is a wound
that comes back together with you.

Now the blues is playing
in a room without light,
I understood what love was
when I had no voice left to cry.

And my black hair comes back to me,
the laughter on the sidewalks,
the promises whispered softly
on evenings with no yesterday.

Those gentle eyes come back to me,
waiting for my yes,
but I had too much road ahead
and I never stayed there.

Now I know those women
were not only passion,
they were open doors
to my salvation and forgiveness.

But time is a silent thief,
it gives nothing back,
it leaves you only the names
of those who truly loved you.

Now I sit here alone,
with the night upon my shoulders,
while the world goes by outside
and the stars fall down inside me.

I no longer seek answers,
I no longer seek fortune,
I only have old memories
biting at my moon.

And this woman beside me
does not know my pain,
she sleeps close to my body,
but never reaches my heart.

Now the blues is playing,
playing softly inside me,
every note is a wound
that comes back together with you.

Now the blues is playing
in a room without light,
I understood what love was
when I had no voice left to cry.

Play on, blues,
until my final breath,
let me cry in silence
for the love that I betrayed.

Play on, blues,
do not stop right now,
I have no time left for loving,
I only wear regret now.

And so I remain alone.
With a sad song.
With everything I never understood.
With everything I lost.
And the blues…
at least the blues listens to me.

Notes

Regret Blues is a reflective and sorrowful song built around memory, missed love and emotional blindness.
The voice of the song is that of an older man who finally understands that the women he once passed by were not simply moments of passion, but possible paths to truth, tenderness and redemption. The blues becomes the only witness still able to listen to him.
