Fanatics we are

Brief presentation

“Fanatics we are” is the English version of “I fanatici siam”, a satirical and theatrical song about fanaticism, blind obedience and the transformation of belief into a tool for control, division and violence.

The song deliberately adopts the fanatics’ own point of view and pushes their slogans and certainties to the point of absurdity. The irony is meant to expose what happens when doubt disappears and personal conscience is replaced by obedience.

Notes

The musical style is satirical rock with a theatrical and energetic character, combining electric and acoustic guitars, harmonica, brass and group vocals. The chorus is intentionally built like a collective slogan.

The target of the satire is not faith itself, but fanaticism: the moment in which ideas become absolute, critical thought is abandoned and people can be pushed to fight, hate or sacrifice themselves for slogans imposed by others.

The English lyrics preserve the ironic perspective of the Italian version, using direct and exaggerated language so that the fanatic voice ultimately reveals its own contradictions.

Meaning of the title

The title “Fanatics we are” sounds like a collective declaration. That is intentional: the plural voice suggests a group speaking as one, without individual doubt or independent judgement.

The title therefore introduces the song’s satirical mechanism immediately: fanaticism is represented from within in order to be exposed through exaggeration.
